Way back in 2019, I published “The Furlough: A Short Civil War Story” for Kindle, It was mostly an exercise in learning to use KDP, so I didn’t think too much about the cover art. I put together something that didn’t look totally awful on Canva, using a photo I’d taken at a reenactment.
I decided it was time to give it a facelift.

Because it’s just a 99-cent short story, I didn’t want to spend a ton. So I went to GetCovers and I’m very happy with the result. A couple rounds of revision and swapping out stock photos that the designer did some Photoshop magic on, and here’s the final result!
To celebrate, “The Furlough” is FREE for Kindle August 1-5.
Then, as always, it’s just 99¢ to buy, or you can read it through Kindle Unlimited.

Hi Lynn! I remember reading this story in our online critique group long ago, if it’s the same one I’m thinking of. So glad to see you back in historical fiction, Civil War Era again! Looking forward to reading this again soon!
